What kind of souvenirs worth to buy in Phuket?

In view of the outrageous prices in Thailand, traveling in Thailand is not only about eating, drinking and having fun, but also shopping! Many friends once asked me, what kind of souvenirs should I bring to relatives and friends that are both decent and practical? Today, let’s give you a not-so-small summary based on the author’s long-term experience in Thailand!

Snacks, Beverages and Condiments

The so-called people depend on food! There are really no more delicacies in Thailand that you can take away. Here are a few small snacks that the author always keeps at home. The first is the well-known small boss seaweed, which has many types of packaging, but the taste is uneven, some of which are not good, such as Dongyin flavor and the one in the picture. There is also instant noodles that must be tried. Mama means noodles in Thai.

Then, many friends who come to Thailand will definitely bring home dried mangoes, durians, dried bananas and other dried tropical fruits and candies, such as coconut candy, durian candy and so on. I won’t list the brands one by one, because they are basically the same. If you are in Phuket, you will definitely be dazzled by walking around the Jungceylon Shopping Center in Patong.

In terms of drinks, my favorite is Yakult from Thailand! The price of such a bottle at 7-11 is 25 baht, and it is cheaper in local supermarkets, so it has almost replaced water as my daily necessity. Friends who like to drink coconut milk don’t have to worry about not being able to drink the unique Thai coconut milk when they go back. Cocomax is definitely made of 100% coconut milk.

I don’t know, Thailand is actually a beer paradise. In addition to Chang (Elephant) and Singha (Sing Lions), today I must give you Amway a local beer brand Cha La Wan (crocodile brand) that can only be bought in Phuket. ). But I don’t really like beer very much. In contrast, pre-mixed cocktails are my favorite. And as a loyal fan of Spy, almost all the flavors are collected in the refrigerator, no wonder my friends laughed at me crazy.

The taste of Thai food mainly comes from various special spices, so markets and supermarkets are filled with all kinds of seasonings, such as Tom Yum Kung, curry, fried noodles and other seasonings. Because most of them are packaged and prepared, they are very convenient to use and the price is not expensive. Friends who like to cook can buy some and try to make them at home.

Thai curry is very popular. Because coconut paste is added to reduce the spiciness and enhance the aroma, and according to different curries, spices such as lemongrass, fish sauce, and bay leaf are added, which makes Thai curry different from Indian curry and unique. Here are some tips for you about curry. In Thailand, the more common curries include green curry, Masaman curry, red curry/yellow curry. In fact, the red curry and yellow curry cooked in restaurants outside actually use the same curry paste, the difference is that more or less coconut milk is added later.

Tom Yum Sauce, as the name suggests, is a sauce made from hot and sour soup. Gong means shrimp in Thai. In fact, besides shrimp, you can also make Tom Yum Gai (Tom Yum Chicken) and so on. As one of the most talked about flavors in Thailand, tom yum has naturally attracted countless Thai food lovers to be obsessed with it. Here I would like to recommend a very authentic Tom Yum Sauce, which can be bought in large supermarkets.

Latex Products

Thai latex products are the world-renowned, but do you know that most of the latex pillows sold on the market are OEM fakes? In fact, many latex products ship the materials to China for processing, then label them as authentic products in Thailand, and then bring them back to Thailand and sell them to foreigners! The quality is really worrying.

The brand I use is BATU, which is comfortable and durable. Since it is a brand preferred by locals in Thailand, the price is quite affordable. An ordinary adult latex pillow is only about 500 yuan when it is sent back to China with free shipping. Friends who are interested in buying can chat with me privately.

PS: Many friends said that they still don’t know much about Thai latex pillows. Here I quote a friend’s answer to give you a little science.

1. Is the design of the latex pillow reasonable?

The human cervical spine has a forward curvature. The curvature of the height difference specially designed by the latex pillow is to support the neck to maintain the normal curvature. It is completely ergonomic design, so it can provide a good protection for the cervical spine during sleep.

2. Can latex pillows really help sleep?

The rational design of high and low pillows can fully improve the microcirculation of the head and neck of the human body. Now the blood circulation in the brain can assist in the treatment of headaches, neurasthenia, insomnia and other symptoms caused by insufficient blood supply to the brain.

3. Can latex pillows treat cervical spondylosis?

Latex pillows have auxiliary and corrective functions! The ergonomic design principle of the latex pillow fits the curve of the human body, distributes the pressure of the human body according to the various parts of the cervical spine of the human body, achieves all-round support, corrects bad sleeping positions during sleep, and improves cervical spondylosis.

4. Why do I feel more pain in the cervical spine after two days of pillowing?

Because many people’s cervical spondylosis is already very serious invisibly, and some of them have cervical spine stiffness. The cervical spine is no longer a normal physiological curvature, so when they first sleep on a latex pillow, they will feel a little uncomfortable with that curvature. Sleep on it for a few more days, and when the neck slowly adapts, the pain will be relieved, and the pressure on the cervical spine will also be relieved!

5. Will the latex pillow be soft?

Generally speaking, latex pillows are moderately soft and hard, and rebound very quickly, and are not easy to deform. When you turn over, the pillow that was originally pressed will rebound quickly, supporting the neck again, and continuing to protect the neck during sleep. Coupled with a touch of frankincense, it can effectively improve the quality of sleep!

6. Can the latex pillow be washed and dried?

The pillow core can be washed, but as little as possible, because of the characteristics of natural latex, it should not be exposed to the sun, but just dry in a cool place. The pillowcase can be washed at will.

7. Can the latex pillow be used for more than 10 years?

In principle, it can be used for more than 10 years if it is properly maintained (not exposed to the sun, not washed frequently)!

Thai medicine and daily care

When it comes to medicine in Thailand, many people should know more or less that Thailand’s medical care is actually among the top in the world in many aspects. And the medicinal products here are generally better than domestic medicines, such as tiger brand stickers (with cold compresses and hot compresses), the all-purpose ointment popular in Southeast Asia – green herbal ointment, and Soffell mosquito repellent liquid with excellent mosquito repellent effect , Hirudoid Scar Removing Cream, the good friend of friends with tuberculosis—Centipede Cough Pills, Tiger Balm Shoulder and Neck Pain Ointment, which is necessary for low-headed people, Tiger Balm and Fishing Brand Toothache Oil, which are well-known in Asia, etc. These medicines are very good Famous and favored.

Then talk about some daily necessities. Many local care products in Thailand are very effective.

For example, the herbal toothpaste and tooth powder of the brand shown in the picture below can whiten your teeth and keep your breath fresh. You can buy them in any local supermarket. The price is about one-third of Colgate’s, but the effect is completely incomparable.

Speaking of it, Asians seem to dislike black and love white, and Thais are no exception, so sunscreen products are very important in Thailand where it is almost hot all year round. If it weren’t for THANN’s perilla sunscreen, I guess I would be completely regarded as a Thai when walking on the street now…

Around the SPA

Let’s talk about Thailand’s most famous spa and its peripheral products. Essential oil products, aromatherapy bottles and candle holders are all very popular in Thailand. Here I have to mention Banyan Tree Spa Products, as the most famous spa in Asia, its self-produced and sold peripherals are not only unique in shape, but also very effective! Even daily necessities such as shampoo and body wash are very useful, and the price is actually not as expensive as expected (compared with the price of spa treatments, it is simply the tip of the iceberg).

Thai silk

Finally, let’s talk about Thai silk. Unlike Chinese silk, which is soft and bright, it is rough and hard, but because of this, it is especially suitable for hand-weaving, creating colorful and unique works of art. These handicrafts with special luster are full of changes in pattern design, which are completely different from the effects produced by machines. They are one of the most popular Thai handicrafts purchased by tourists from all over the world. In recent years, Jim Thompson has almost become synonymous with Tess, and there are many branches in almost every major city. In addition to scarves, square scarves, cushion covers and other hot-selling items, Jim Thompson’s women’s bags are favored by customers for their exquisite workmanship and affordable prices.

Although the author himself has worn some Thai silk, since Phuket is too hot to wear this kind of clothing, I have no intention of buying it. However, some customers and friends asked about it, and I would also recommend Jim Thompson. According to the feedback, the quality seems to be really good.

Last but not least, now that we know what gifts to buy when we come to Thailand, where should we go to buy these things?
